to come. that's up from 48% just a year ago. let's bring in our political panel, angela mcglowan and a former spokesperson for vermont gosh howard dean who is also a presidential candidate. ladies, thanks for joining us, look, there's a lot of pessimism right now as we're seeing right now, a degree of uncertainty amongst the american people and why do you think that is when we're seeing that the economy shall at least our unemployment rate dropped to below 8%. >> americans, americans are suffering, kelly. i mean, people today, most don't believe in the american dream anymore, most don't believe they can obtain a house or even keep their house, most are living from paycheck to paycheck, if they have a job and more americans are living on government assistance. now, is that the fault of the obama administration? is it the fault of congress? or is it the fault of the american people? we elected these people in office, and we reejected obama and his policy has failed us, kelly. we don't know what the middle class is today because the middle class continues to shrink. >> christy
a responsible way to deal with the looming financial crisis. angela mcglowan, and penny lee, joining me for this beautiful afternoon, ladies. >> thank you. >> we're not hearing any talk of compromise for a 11th hour deal being worked out. what are the consequences here and who will face the brunt of this, penny? >> well, unfortunately right now we're at a time in washington they don't face the crisis until it's absolutely the 11th hour. we see this time and time again and sequestration has been known. this has been out there the last part. better part of nine months and in part because the super committee failed to come up with an alternative to this plan and unfortunately, the cuts would be delayed and over a decade and we won't feel the immediate cause of it, so, congress is going to probably do what they usually do, which is kick it down the can and unfortunately deal with the next crisis which is potentially shutting down the government the end of march. >> we were just hearing from steve centanni about the cuts possibly to the military and who will face the brunt of these, real peo
strategist angela ragg. is the president overreacting? let's just say rand paul is spot-on. john nichols, is the president overreacting? >> he absolutely is not overreacting. the sequester is austerity. it is -- it's not slowing the rate of growth. our population is growing. our needs are growing. if you slow down the amount of spending you've got at a time when you have growth and population, you are making severe cuts. and the sequester is really the first installment on an austerity agenda that poses huge threats according to government and private sector analyses to our abolishmeemployment rate an potential for growth. the president is not lying nor is he being historionic or overboard. >> i don't know what the president strategy is, but it looks to me like there is not one. they're saying different things and reacting on different points and none of them make sense. when you talk about sequestration or across the board cuts, we're talking about things that impact the lives of real people. they want to see small government. well, small government doesn't work when you have a large po
at the door of couple, angela bower and jennifer shriner. >> for me, for all intents and purposes is a contract that says look, i'm giving up parental rights. >> kansas law says differently. dr. michelle. >> many states automatically say, if an insemination does not take place, either in a physician's office or under a physician's guidance, that donor will automatically be considered as a parental figure. >> and that's why kansas wants the government assistance they paid back from morata. >> you don't have to deal with any of that because the donors agreements are with us. >> i believe it's unethical. >> this donor talked to us on the condition we wouldn't show his face or name. he passed the genetic medical and other testing fairfax bank requires. our donor admits although he is protected, he wasn't 100% clear on the law. and frankly, he's surprised. >> i think there are a lot of variables in it and the state have their reasons for doing what they are doing. i think it's crazy, especially for the kid. >> his attorneys filed a petition to have the case dismissed. in case y
will host the meeting discussing how to curb gun violence. prince george's county state's attorney angela also brooks and montgomery county police chief thomas manger are set to speak at the event. it comes on the same day that president obama travels to minneapolis to push his gun control legislation. the gun control debate came up during the super bowl. this commercial ran here in washington during the game. the ad ran at the beginning of the third quarter last night. it shows the nra's executive vice president after the shooting in columbine high school in 1999. he supported closing a loophole on background checks. the ad was paid for by the group mayors against illegal guns co-chaired by new york mayor, michael bloomberg. >>> 14 before the top of the hour right now. you better believe it's going to be a fun couple of days in baltimore much the city is celebrating the ravens super bowl victory. >> you know, that celebration really started minutes after the game ended last night. fans poured into the streets in baltimore's federal hill neighborhood. we are not hearing of any arrests at
, an italian by the name of angela scola, who comes out of the same theological school of the current pope, pope benedict, considered like pope benedict a very serious intellectual, a media savvy figure with a strong, popular touch, but in addition someone over the years who has developed a specialty of outreach and dialog with the islamic world through a foundation he created first in venice, which has gone global, and christian/must limb relations are among the top-shelve priorities, and whoever takes over as leader of the catholic church. that would be one name you are likely to hear a great deal about in the days to come, but an old saying in rome, he who goes into a conclave as a papal front-runner comes out as a cardinal, you can't necessarily take to the bank that the names you hear mentioned in public are the ones being seriously considered by the cardinals once they are behind locked doors in the sistine chapel, swearing their oaths in latin and casting their ballots. >> let's talk more about pope been duct ibenedict xvi, let's about his legacy. what will be talking about when we
of a week from the super bowl. haloti ngata's knee injury won't be so bad and angela foster said it's ravens or nothing for him. laying down the law for what he wants to do and cam cameron also cut for the ravens says he is going to find a job down the road. his good friend les miles from l.s.u. to set hire him as his offensive coordinator. that would be good news for cam to get back to college where he can be maybe a little more successful. in college hoops, from friday night, host the sienna. there goes dylan core mere. a deuce as well, thank you. hung around this game far while. o'seeky, nice post move. nothing for it but the follow worked well indeed. speaking of getting up, how about the alley-oop? two of his 25 points. loyola leads in a comfortable victory over sienna. also in baltimore to play a little lacrosse. season opener john hopkins facing sienna. hopkins didn't seem upset about it. brandon had a hat trick. fadeaway shot? we'll go with the fadeaway. 9-4, hopkins. we'll stay in the third. lefty, 5-hole. rolls past sienna. fifth-ranked jays. i'm pete gilbert. we'll see you back he
violence. mary johnson, angela, maya, police sgt mike duzann i look forward to spending time with each of you tomorrow afternoon. i want to send my condolences to the people of oakdale, minnesota, who experienced a horrific shooting last night. i spent some time traveling around minnesota in the aftermath of the shooting in sandy hook, and what i have learned is that we can honor minnesota's culture of responsible gun ownership while taking some reasonable steps to make our communities safer. gun-control is a central part of this. i support a ban on assault weapons and a limit on the size of magazines. i also believe that we need to improve and expand our background check system. billions of people because of our background check system have been denied guns. it seems like there is a consensus being built around the idea that we should do background checks on all purchases of guns. part of improving the background check system involves updating mental health records in the national database and, of course, improving access to mental health is an important part of this entire discussion
in italy said he was shaken by the news, while the chancellor angela merkel said she respects his decision. and david cameron sending his wishes. it comes in a meeting this morning, he announced this decision to leave the papacy at the 28th of february at 8:00 at night. it was a decision made without consulting anyone. there was a lot of surprise. and also, the spokesman, when he made a speech -- or when he had a press conference just a few hours later, he said, you know, we need some time, we need some days to try to better understand how to move forward. just to better understand what's going to happen afterwards, is that there will be a conclave of 118 cardinals that will be electing the new pope. so clearly what happens between now and then, really, is that the pope will continue doing what he has done so far. his decision was unexpected. and the way he announced it was very, very simple. he said he doesn't feel he has the strength, mental and physical and spiritual, to move forward in this position. he needs the physical strength that he does not have. he has been ill. his health has
